Objectives and Outline of the Course
応用化学分野に関する基礎事項を講述するとともに、関連する研究の現状ならびに研究開発の展開などのトピックスを取り上げながら、応用化学の考え方、応用化学に関わる研究の方法とその実際について平易に紹介することで、新入学生が応用化学を学んでゆく方針について理解し、考える端緒を与える。
Current research topics in applied chemistry will be introduced as a guidance of the Applied Chemistry program.

1. ガイダンス 応用化学序論Ⅰのガイダンス。4コース(高分子材料デザインコース,材料化学デザインコース,分子化学デザインコース,機能物質デザインコース)の紹介。
Guidance for Introduction to Applied Chemistry I Introduction to four courses (Polymer materials design course, Materials chemistry design course, Molecular chemistry design course, and Functional materials design course).
2. 機能物質デザインコース(1) ナノ材料を用いた疾患治療や診断法は新たな先端医療技術として注目されている。本講義では,特にペプチドやタンパク質などの生体分子から構成されるナノ材料に焦点を当て,その作製技術および疾患治療への応用について紹介する。(和久 友則)
我々の体を作っている細胞の中ではたくさんの生体分子が働いているが,とても小さく目で見ることはできない。目に見えない分子や物理化学場を可視化する「イメージング技術」について概説し,近年の応用例を紹介する。(外間 進悟)
Functional Materials Design course (1) Disease treatment and diagnostics using nanomaterials are attracting attention as a new advanced medical technology. In this class, we will focus on nanomaterials composed of biomolecules such as peptides and proteins, and introduce their fabrication techniques and applications to disease treatment. (Tomonori Waku)
Many biomolecules are working in the cells that make up our bodies, but they are so small that we cannot see them with our eyes. Imaging technology" to visualize invisible molecules and physicochemical fields will be outlined and recent applications will be introduced. (Shingo Sotoma)
3. 機能物質デザインコース(2) 我々の生命は,体内に含まれている様々な生体分子が秩序だって働くことで維持されている。また,生体分子の働きの乱れは,癌をはじめとする多くの疾患の発症につながることがわかっている。本講義では,生体分子の役割を簡単に紹介するとともに,様々な機能を付与した機能性分子を駆使して生体分子の機能解明・制御を実現しようとする研究を紹介する。(小堀 哲生)

Functional Materials Design course (2) Our life is maintained by orderly functioning various biomolecules in the body. It is also known that disturbances in the function of biomolecules can lead to the development of many diseases, including cancer. In this class, the roles of biomolecules will be briefly introduced, and research to elucidate and control the functions of biomolecules by using functional molecules with various functions will be introduced. Molecular tools to control and manipulate the functions of biomolecules will be reviewed and their applications to life science and medicine will be introduced. (Kazuya Matsuo)
4. 機能物質デザインコース(3) 社会的ニーズに対して応用研究としてどのようにアプローチするか,血液測定用イオンセンサの開発を例にして紹介する.特に,量産化を目指すための技術的工夫等についても解説する.(吉田 裕美)
微生物は多種多様であり,その多様性の中から,ユニークな微生物機能が探索・機能開発され,産業利用されている。本講義では,酵素の基礎的な内容を概説し,微生物酵素の産業利用例を紹介する。(竹内 道樹)
Functional Materials Design course (3) How to approach an applied research to meet social needs will be introduced using an example of the development of an ion sensor for finger blood measurement. In particular, technical innovations for mass production will also be discussed. (Yumi Yoshida)
Based on the diversity of microorganisms, unique microbial functions have been explored, developed, and industrially utilized. In this class, the fundamentals of enzymes and examples of industrial applications of microbial enzymes will be introduced. (Michiki Takeuchi)
5. 高分子材料デザインコース(1) (コース全体紹介)高分子材料や有機分子材料は、衣類や日用品,食料品などに用いられるほか、目に見えないような部分でも機能性を発揮して現代の我々の生活を支えるもっとも身近な材料である。高分子・有機分子材料が示す多彩な性質や機能性を理解するために、高分子材料デザインコースではどのような学習や研究を行うかを紹介する。
(有機半導体)有機半導体と呼ばれる物質群は、発光デバイスや光電変換デバイスに用いられる。本講義では、有機半導体のオリゴマー材料の結晶成長の方法とその物性について紹介する。
Polymeric Materials Design course (1) (Course Overview)
Polymeric and organic molecular materials are used in clothing, household items, and food packaging, and are among the most familiar materials in our daily lives, providing functionality even in areas that are not visible, supporting modern society. To understand the diverse properties and functions of polymeric and organic molecular materials, the former part of this lecture introduces the study and research conducted in the Polymer Materials Design Course.
(Organic Semiconductors)
Organic semiconductors are materials used in light-emitting devices and solar cells. In the latter part of this lecture, we will learn about how to grow crystals of organic semiconductor oligomers and study their properties.
6. 高分子材料デザインコース(2) 身の回りのプラスチックが劣化したり,電子線照射によって表面改質が起きたりするのは,いずれも「ラジカル反応」によって起こるからである.ラジカル種が関連する様々な高分子反応について解説する.
Polymeric Materials Design course (2) Polymers have tiny intermolecular gaps (free volumes) that allow small gas molecules to pass through. This lecture overviews polymeric membranes that utilize “gas permeability” or “gas impermeability” via free volumes.
7. 高分子材料デザインコース(3) タンパク質などの生体高分子は、高分子骨格に応じて巧みな三次元構造を形成し、高度な機能発現する。一方、合成高分子においても、独自の主鎖構造を精密に設計・構築することで、独自の三次元構造の制御が実現されている。本講義では、合成高分子の一次構造制御を基盤とした三次元構造の形成と機能発現について、最新の研究を紹介する。
Polymeric Materials Design course (3) Naturally occurring polymers, such as proteins, form precise three-dimensional structures based on their backbone, enabling sophisticated functions. Similarly, synthetic polymers can achieve distinct structural control through precise main-chain design. This lecture will introduce recent research on the control of three-dimensional structures and their functional properties based on the precise regulation of the primary structure of synthetic polymers.
8. 安全教育(1) 今後,実験・研究を行って行く上で化学物質などの危険から自身を守るための知識について説明する。また,安心安全な実験環境を確保しつつ環境に配慮した本学の活動にいても紹介する。

Safety education (1) Knowledge on how to protect oneself from hazards such as chemical substances when conducting experiments and research will be explained. The lecture will also introduce the activities of the University in consideration of the environment while ensuring a safe and secure experimental environment.

9. 材料化学デザインコース(1) 材料化学デザインコースで学ぶ内容,行われている研究の概要を紹介する。また,本コースの主要研究対象物質である「セラミックス」とは何か,どこで使われ,どのように実社会で役に立っているかを平易に解説する。(湯村 尚史)

10. 材料化学デザインコース(2) 無機化学で扱う物質に,大きな美しい結晶がある。結晶の表面を良く見てみると,想像もつかなかった世界が広がっている。現在,結晶の表面を見ることがどのように世の中の役に立とうとしているのか,研究室でどんな実験をしているのか,その一部を紹介する。(岡田 有史)

Materials Chemistry Design course (2) One of the materials handled in inorganic chemistry is a large beautiful crystal. If you look closely at the surface of crystals, you will find an unimaginable world. This lecture will introduce some of the ways in which looking at the surface of crystals is currently being used to help the world and what kind of experiments are being conducted in laboratories. 11. 材料化学デザインコース(3) Society 5.0(超スマート社会)は、Cyber Physical System (CPS) と呼ばれる社会インフラにより、人類に健康で安全な生活が提供されます。材料化学の基礎知識を中核として、CPSのフィジカル空間における、材料・デバイスおよび、それらの製造/生産プロセス技術を研究開発し、より良い未来社会の実現に貢献します。(菅原 徹)
この講義では、バイオマテリアル科学の基本概念、特に人体が材料に対してどのような反応を示すのかについて説明していきます。生体適合性に影響を与える因子や、科学者がいかに我々の複雑な生体系に適合する材料を設計しているのかを探っていきます。(E. MARIN)
Materials Chemistry Design course (3) Society 5.0 (super smart society) advocated by the Japanese government will provide healthy and safe lives to humans through social infrastructure called Cyber Physical System (CPS). Sugahara Labo, with the basic on the knowledges and technologies of materials chemistry are researching and developing materials, devices, and their manufacturing / production process technology for the physical space of CPS, and contributes to the realization for sophisticated future society. In this lecture, we will explain the basic concepts of biomaterials science, especially how the human body reacts to materials. Explore the factors that influence biocompatibility and how scientists design materials that are compatible with our complex biological systems. (E. MARIN)
12. 分子化学デザインコース(1) 動植物からごく微量しか得られない有用天然有機化合物を取り上げ、生物活性におよぼす分子構造の重要性について議論する。また、天然有機化合物を化学合成する「全合成」について解説する。(大村 智通)
様々な化学物質を分離・分析するための科学について解説する。この分野への化学合成の分野からのアプローチによる分離性能の向上、改善について近年の研究例をもとに説明する。(池上亨)

This lecture focuses on useful natural organic compounds that are obtained in only minute quantities from plants and animals. It discusses the importance of molecular structure in biological activity. The lecture also explains "total synthesis," which is the process of chemically synthesizing natural organic compounds. In this lecture, the science of separation and analysis of various chemical substances is discussed. Recent research examples illustrating how approaches from the field of chemical synthesis can improve and enhance separation performance in this area, is also introduced. (Toru Ikegami)
13. 分子化学デザインコース(2) 有機色素には,染色に用いられる染料のほか,外部エネルギーにより蛍光を発する蛍光色素がある。これら色素の色や蛍光特性は,色素分子の電子状態や凝集状態によって制御される。本講では,有機色素の分子構造が色や蛍光特性に及ぼす影響に関する近年の研究例を概説する。(山田 重之)
π電子を有する有機化合物の光吸収・発光や電荷輸送といった性質,分子の並び方・向きの変化で変化し得る性質について解説する。また,それらを活用した材料機能について,液晶,有機半導体などの事例を概説する。(櫻井 庸明)
Molecular Chemistry Design course (2) Organic dyes include not only colorants used for dyeing but also fluorescent dyes that emit fluorescence upon external energy irradiation. The color and fluorescence properties of these dyes can be controlled by the electronic and aggregated structures of the dye molecules. In this lecture, recent research examples on how the molecular structures of organic dyes influence their color and fluorescence properties will be introduced. (Shigeyuki Yamada)
The part of the most important properties of π-electronic organic compounds will be explained in the class, focusing particularly on the light absorption and emission, charge carrier transport, and these changes associated with the molecular orientation. In addition, the examples of organic materials will be reviewed–liquid crystals (LCs) famous as the application for LC displays, organic semiconductors sometimes referred to as “electrically conducting plastics”. 14. 分子化学デザインコース(3) 本講義では、すりつぶし等の力学的刺激により発光色が可逆的に変化する有機材料について紹介し、後半ではこれらの有機材料の構造解析法の概略を説明する。(楠川 隆博)
ヘテロ(複素) 環式化合物は天然物、生体成分、医農薬品といった生物活性を有する分子や色素、染料の母骨格として利用されている身近な化合物群である。本講義ではその基本的な特徴、合成法ならびに最近の応用例について概説する。(安井 基博)
Molecular Chemistry Design course (3) In this lecture, organic materials whose emission color can be reversibly changed by mechanical stimuli such as grinding will be introduced, and in the latter half of the lecture, the structural analysis methods of these organic materials will be summarized. Heterocycles are familiar compounds that are used not only as biologically active molecules such as natural products, biological components, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, but also as skeletons of dyes and pigments. In this lecture, the basic characteristics, synthetic methods, and recent applications of heterocycles will be reviewed. (Motohiro Yasui)

本学の1 ~3回生(研究室配属される迄の学部生)は本学ESMSでは準構成員に位置づけられ,本学の環境安全に関わる活動を認識する必要がある。これらについて詳細に説明する。

各回の復習に1時間、講義ごとに出された課題作成に1-2時間の学外学習時間を要する回もある。
本学では1単位当たりの学修時間を45時間としています。毎回の授業にあわせて事前学修・事後学修を行ってください。
Some sessions require one hour for reviewing each lesson and 1-2 hours of off-campus study time to prepare assignments given for each class.
Please note that KIT requires 45 hours of study from students to award one credit, including both in-class instructions as well as study outside classes. Students are required to prepare for each class and complete the review after each class.

多人数講義であり、またオムニバス型式であるので、各回の内容を良く理解できるよう努力する必要がある。
クラス間の移動は認めないので、開講場所に注意すること。
Since this is a multi-group class and an omnibus course, students should make an effort to understand the content of each session well.
Students are not allowed to move from one class to another, so please pay attention to the course location.
